GLOBAL STUDIES 9
Mr. Graves

Students study the development of world civilizations after the fall of the Roman Empire. Students study the history of the major empires and political entities of this period: the Ottoman Empire, the Moghul Empire, the Chinese dynasties, the Byzantine Empire, and the major pre-Columbian civilizations that existed in Central and South America. Students examine the important political, economic, and religious developments of this period, including the development of Christianity and
Islam, the conflicts between them in different parts of the world, and the beginnings of European influence on the western hemisphere. Finally, students study the development of democratic, scientific, and secular thought in the major events and developments of European history.

Below is a rough idea of what topics you can expect to cover on a quarter by quarter basis.

1st Quarter

China - Middle Empire, trade & arts, Buddhism, Taoism,Ming & Manchu Dynasties, agriculture trade and cities.

GRADING

Your overall grade is calculated using the following formula.

1st Quarter = 20%

2nd Quarter =20%

Midterm = 10%

3rd Quarter = 20%

4th Quarter = 20%

Final Exam = 10%

All students must take both the Midterm and Final Exams on the scheduled days. No one is exempt regardless of your grade.

Your quarter grade is calculated using the following formula.

Homework 25%

Tests/Quizzes/Projects 35%

Class Participation/Behavior 20%

In class work/Current Events 20%
