European A.P
European A.P is an intensive full year
course covering
the time frame of approximately 1350
until the present.
The goal of the course is to allow
the student to familiarize
themselves with concepts and make connections;
primarilly
along the lines of economic, social
and political means.
Emphasis within the course is placed
upon: reading, evaluation
of primary source material and the
components of good writing.
Throughout the year students will have
access to visual aids,
such as films, computers and primary
source documents. Along
with standardized text readings, there
will also be supplemental
material in the form of maps, handouts
and additional texts. The
students will be responsible for reading
an additional book, one
in each semester, which they will critique
and present to the class.
These books will focus on an issue
or issues from a particular time
period which the student has chosen
for themselves.
The culmination of this effort is the
AP test. The test is held in May of
each school year and affords the student
the opportunity of receiving
college credit if their score is sufficient.
The AP test is graded on a 1-5
scale, 5 being a perfect score. Usually
a score of 3 or above is necessary
for a college to accept it as credit.
The test consists of 3 parts: the first is a
standard multiple choice section, the
second is an essay in which the
student receives two sets of essays
with 3 essay questions in each, they
are to choose one essay from each section
and write on it, the third and
final section is a DBQ, a document
based question, in which the student
is presented with approximately 12-15
primary source documents
focussing on one particular issue,
the student then answers the question
presented using these documents to support
their particular viewpoint.
