Council Leadership
There are four officers of the Council.
Rachel Schubert, President Ben Williams, Vice-President Maxwell Nunes, Secretary Gregg Leonard, Treasurer
The officers of the Council serve the student body as a whole and have no dedication to an individual class.
The president serves as the president of the student body and the SGA, as well as the Student Council. He/she determines the agenda for the Student Council. He/she also serves as the SGA's representative to the School Committee (the policy-making and budget-setting body of the school) and to the School Advisory Council (an influencial board that advises the School Committee and determines the annual school improvement plan).
The secretary assists the presidents and serves as the SGA's representative to the principal's coffees, a roundtable discussion held with the principal to discuss school improvement.
The treasurer works with the school's administrative assistant to manage the finances of the Student Council. He also represents the SGA at the School Committee's finance subcommittee.

2007-2008 Objectives
The Student Council's objectives for the year include goals in three categories including student activites, policies of the school administration, and Student Council leadership.
Student activities
Part of the role of the Student Council is to plan events in the interests of the students. This year, we will sponsor a motivational speaker and hold a film festival, each during X periods during the school day. We are also planning a Mr. and Mrs. Martha's Vineyard contest out of school as a fundraiser. In addition, we hope to assist the leadership class in forming a new mascot for the regional high school. Already we have screened Gaylen Films' "Stolen Childhoods" produced entirely on Martha's Vineyard.
Policy
There are a number of school policies we hope to reexamine.
Student Council leadership
In the interest of improving the influence of the Student Council over the school for the future, we hope to set new precedents in the leadership of student government, includng the involvement of Student Congress and the leadership class, implementing more intensive summer planning, more effective meeting schedules, better communication, and consolidation of leadership.
|
CommitteesTo increase productivity, Student Council meetings will have time dedicated to committee meetings. The Student Council has several important standing committees, including the Community, Student Actvities, Policy, and Miscellanoues Committees.
The Student Council is completely independent when it comes to its discipline. If a member is found to be unfit to serve for any variety of reasons, the member is brought before this committee comprised entirely of council members.
|
What We Do
The Student Council is the main governing group of the student body. We represent the students on a variety of levels and serve as a line of communication to administration. We strive to make the MVRHS experience as enjoyable as possible by improving all aspects of student life, from the overall environment of the school to curriculum and instruction. We meet every two weeks to discuss changes to be made to the school. |
Get Involved
Student Council elections are held in June for the following year's Council. If you are interested in joining, pick up a nomination form in the office during the designated week in June and collect the necessary signatures to be nominated for office. If you win the election, you're on the Council.
Please feel free to contact any member of the Student Council to express your opinions on the way the school is run and how we can help make this a better place to be. For a stronger voice, you can also get involved in the Student Congress.
We are often looking for volunteers for class projects (the prom committee, fundraisers, etc.) and service projects. Just because you're not on the Council doesn't mean you can't help!
