#1 ~ It MUST be your own work!!!

~You will need to follow appropriate format (APA or MLA style).

~You will need a title page and reference page.

~You will need to use a minimum of three (3) resources.  See below for required resources.

~The body of your paper must be a minimum of five(5)  pages (not including lovely pictures, graphs or otherwise, those should be included as appendices)

~ The purpose of this paper is multi-faceted but ultimately it would be great if you learned something useful!!

If you have ANY questions about how to accomplish any of the above tasks, please do not hesitate to ask me.  Call me, email me, or come to see me in school.

It is your responsibility to get this work done but remember I am here to help you...I can't help if you don't ask!!!

A note about resources

By citing a source in your paper you are giving credit to the person who did the original work.  A critical part of deciding upon which sources to use in a paper is the credibility of the information.  The internet creates a difficult dilemma.  There are so many sources out there so how do you know if what you read is true?  Simple answer...it ain't easy!

Be certain to use proper format for including resources.  Cite the work where necessary in your paper.  Also be certain to properly format your reference page.  For help with this, please use the links above and/or ask me.

You are required to use at least three resources for your paper.  Included in the three must be at least one of each of the following:
~  A hardcopy source (book, magazine, journal)
~  An internet article found by using a
library search engine

**NOTE**  Wikipedia is NOT a valid reference.  It is a source to use to find some direction but it is not a 100% reliable source.  DO NOT use Wikipedia as a source in your paper.

Oral Presentation

Check back for
schedule of oral
presentations.

First and foremost, you must research your topic.  To be able to speak in front of the class you must know what you are talking about.  Being prepared is 90% of the battle.  Remember, whether you will be attending college or heading straight to the work force, your ability to speak with people will be tested more often than any other form of communication.

For some great tips, click on the
RiceOWL link to the right.

Oral Presentation Guidelines/Requirements

You are the star of your Oral Presentation.
This means that you may use video clips, photos, posters, PowerPoint, handouts, computer quizzes, artifacts, exhibits, models, etc,
HOWEVER, you must be the main speaker.

Your presentation should be a minimum of 5-10 minutes.  This is not a long time.  Every topic can fill at least 10 minutes so do not fret.
Just take your time, research, and prepare.  You will do just fine.

You are not required to turn in any notes but it is always a good idea to have notes to follow while in front of the classroom.  It is your job to be prepared.  DO NOT expect to sit at a desk and read from your PowerPoint.

You may bring in a laptop to connect to the projector or use the Mac on my desk.

There will be an easel for you to display your posters if necessary.

If you need any other form of technology from the school, please ask me to help you arrange this well in advance.  (For instance, if you would like the class to use the mobile laptop lab during your presentation, you must ask me to arrange this for you.  Or if you need to use a video camera...etc.)

A visual presentation is required.  You could even schedule a guest speaker but remember, you must be the star of the show.

Most importantly...have some fun.

This is your time to be in charge!

Ask yourself this:

How can I help others to implement a healthy lifestyle?
Use this question as a guiding force for your research and presentation.

**Important Note**
If you are not prepared on the scheduled day of your presentation, you will loose 25 points per class that you are unable to present.  Best idea...BE PREPARED!!!
If you are sick, please bring in a note.
