The last writing assignment of the year will be an essay in which you explore the existential themes in Jean-Luc Godard’s film “Breathless.” We will watch the film in class over the next two class periods.
For this task, you should come up with a thesis that makes a declarative statement about existentialism in the film. In other words, you are not showing that existentialism themes are present in the film, but rather, you are offering insight into what the film shows about existentialism.
The rough draft will be due on Thursday, May 29th and is worth 20 points.
The final draft will be due on Wednesday, May 4th and is worth 100 points.

- Depth will evaluate your ability to thoroughly explore the themes in all their complexity
- Support will evaluate your ability to use specific examples from the film
- Organization will evaluate your ability to present a clear and cogent essay
- Mechanics will evaluate your ability to avoid spelling or grammatical errors.
- Vocabulary will evaluate your ability to use three (3) vocab words in the essay.
Final drafts not turned in at the beginning of class on Wednesday, May 4th will be assessed a ten point penalty per day that they are late. Rough drafts must be turned in on the day the are due to receive credit.
