Course Description:
Introduction to Film is designed to provide students with the tools necessary to analyze the art of film-making with sophistication and precision. The course will also introduce students to major films from a wide array of styles, genres, and time periods.
Course Objectives:
1.) Students will gain a cultural, historic, and critical appreciation for the art of film-making.
2.) Students will develop critical thinking skills as applied to the analysis, interpretation, and assessment of films.
3.) Students will demonstrate sophisticated analytical skills through written and oral communication.
Course Requirements:
- Two writing assignments per quarter
- One exam per quarter
- In-class presentations
- Group projects

- Classicism
All films will be screened during regularly scheduled class time. It is the student’s responsibility to view the film if they miss a class due to absence.
