Dear Parents and Students,

As a special education liaison and resource teacher, I want to inform you of the behavioral and academic expectations, and the goals in resource class.

All students will work on the completion of Academic Assignments:

studying new material, test preparation, test taking.

completion of CRISS - CReating Independents through Student owned Strategies, Learning Strategy Activities.

silent reading of class novels, text books, individual reading materials.

studying for Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System - MCAS.

The student MUST use a Homework Assignment Notebook/Assignment Recording System.

The student will demonstrate responsibility for learning.

Including; talking with other academic teachers concerning make-up work for absences from class, meeting with teachers after school as necessary, completing all assignments on-time, meeting resource room expectations, advocating for self.

Students will be graded. Students can gain 5 academic credits per year through successful participation in the resource program. Individual grading in the areas above determine successful participation and quarterly achievement.

Additional emphasis is consistently placed on students becoming more independent and successful in all academic classes. This is assisted by the teaching of learning, test taking strategies, and encouraging student to advocate for themselves with their academic teachers in all areas to include modifications and adaptations of class expectations.

Your parental and personal support is appreciated and most important.

Sincerely,

Jeff W. Caruthers, M.Ed.
