January 2009 Dear Parents and Students: One of the
things we are most proud of here at MarthaŐs Vineyard Regional High School is
our student driven schedule. Unlike other schools where students are plugged
into existing requirements we let our young people choose their electives and
their direction throughout their four years here. We would like students to
take chances, to experiment, in order to get the most rounded education
possible. We have an extensive group of electives throughout our major core
curriculum departments, as well as a preeminent music and arts program from
which to choose from in order to accomplish this goal. We ask parents and
students to take advantage of all of these wonderful offerings and in doing
so choose carefully. It is
important for parents to take an active role in helping their child choose
their course, but it is also important to allow your child the opportunity to
explore that which interests them the most. Pre-planning is vital in order to
avoid having to switch once a marking period is under way. Switching out, for
other then a level change, may cause undue disruption to the education
process. So, work with your child on their future goals, ask for the
assistance of guidance counselors, and choose the path that best suits your
needs. If you have
any questions or concerns about any of our course offerings please feel free
to contact the Department Chair, your childŐs Guidance Counselor or their
Assistant Principal to help you in this all important process. Sincerely, Stephen
