INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: None
This is a one-semester course that is for students with little computer background. Student will learn how to use the Macintosh and Windows operating systems to run programs, save files, create directories, back up data, and master other operating system functions. Skill areas to be investigated include word processing, databases, spreadsheets and multi-media presentations.
ADVANCED COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: None
This one semester elective course will focus on the use of the major application areas of personal computers: Relational databases, Internet web page design, web site construction, and file format conversion. Students may begin at an advanced course level if it is demonstrated that the student already has these skills.
ADVANCED COMPUTER APPLICATIONS II (Computer Science)
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted
Prerequisite: Advanced Computer Applications I or pre-test.
Students will be introduced to computer networking schemes, such as TCP/IP. Students will set up a web server and become familiar with Internet networking protocols. Students will create advanced web sites will also learn how to publish a database on the Internet. Another application area to be explored is Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the making of computer maps that are combined with database information. Students will be introduced to computer hardware and software troubleshooting. Finally, the history of computing will be studied to give a perspective on the place of this powerful tool in our world and its implications for the future.
COMPUTER GRAPHICS I
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted
Prerequisite: Advanced Computer Applications I or pre-test.
In this course students will become proficient in using software tools for creating digital 2D and 3D images, animation, and interactive multimedia.
COMPUTER GRAPHICS II
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: Computer Graphics I
In this one semester elective course, students will create multimedia projects and video for both DVD and the World Wide Web. A large part of the course will investigate digital video editing.
PROGRAMMING I
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted
Prerequisite: Advanced Computer Applications II or permission of the instructor.
In this one semester elective course, students will:
Define the basic terms and concepts of programming in Java.
Install programming tools and set up a programming environment.
Write various programs that interact with users, collect data, and acts upon user input.
PROGRAMMING II

In this one semester elective course, students will investigate advanced programming concepts using JAVA.
DESIGN TOPICS IN TECHNOLOGY AND COMPUTERS
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: None
TTC is a course designed to explore the latest trends and developments in the fast moving world of Technology and Computers. This course will evolve as technology changes; students will help choose areas of investigation. Each unit will take two weeks to complete. Some of the units will be conceptual in nature. For example, the AI unit will involve reading, discussion and a video. Other units will be more project based. For example, in the GIS unit, students will create a map of Africa that color codes the nations according to population density. Major areas of investigation may include: AI (artificial intelligence), buying a computer, digital audio, digital photography, digital video, future computers, game design, GIS (Geographical Information System), how computers work, information on-line, internet, malware, music, nanotechnology, podcasts, presentations, programming, safe computing and file translation.
INTRODUCTION TO FLASH ANIMATION
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: None
The class will delve into the key aspects of working with Flash CS3 to create professional animations, design interactive websites, and incorporate audio and video into self-contained presentations. The class covers using the drawing and color tools, mastering the essentials of animation, and working with type, graphics, sound, and video. The class also introduces Action Script 3.0.
GAME AND WEB DEVELOPMENT
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: Computer Graphics 1 and Programming 1, or Introduction to Flash Animation or permission of the instructor.
Make Flash CS3 Action Script fun in Action Script 3.0: Game and Web Development. Explains the principles of game design and development and then shows how to overcome game-making challenges to create all kinds of games. Students learn how to deal with case sensitivity, create dynamically moving enemies, add event listeners, determine a win or loss in a game, and add additional features and artificial intelligence. Students will learn how to build a game from scratch.
