FRENCH I
5 Credits Full Year Honors Prerequisite: None
The basic text is the same as French I College I but this is a more accelerated program. In addition to the completion of the regular text a comprehensive program of supplemental reading and writing material is included.
FRENCH I
5 Credits Full Year College I Prerequisite: None
This section of French I is designed for students who desire an in-depth study of French. The four basic skills in learning a foreign language (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) are developed by degrees. Much emphasis is placed on using the target language. In addition to the basic text and oral practice, videos, cassettes, magazines, and other materials will be used.
FRENCH II
5 Credits Full Year Honors
Prerequisite: French I with 80% or better or permission of the instructor.
A more accelerated program with further in-depth concentration of the four language acquisition skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
FRENCH II
5 Credits Full Year College I
Prerequisite: French I with grade of 70%, or permission of the instructor.
This section is a continuation of College I French I. The first quarter emphasizes review and reinforcement of fundamentals. The rest of the year is spent on grammatical structures, conversations and culture.
FRENCH III
5 Credits Full Year Honors
Prerequisite: French II with 80% or better or permission of the instructor.
This course is conducted in French. More advanced grammatical structures are introduced. Francophone cultures around the world are studied as a basis for a more comprehensive acquisition of language skills.
FRENCH III
5 Credits Full Year College I
Prerequisite: French II with grade of 70% or permission of the instructor.
This course uses the target language in a study of French customs, and culture. The four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing developed in the first two years of study are further developed. Emphasis is on reading and writing, all in French. The course is conducted in French.
FRENCH IV
5 Credits Full Year Honors
Prerequisite: French III with a grade of 80% or permission of the instructor.
This course considers four units of French culture. Each quarter is devoted to a definite topic. The four topics are French art, French poetry, French Theater, French culture and civilization. Emphasis is on critical analysis and creative writing, all in French grammatical structures are reviewed throughout. The course is conducted in French.
FRENCH IV
5 Credits Full Year College I
Prerequisite: French III with grade of 70% or permission of the instructor.
French is the main language spoken in the classroom. History, customs, and other aspects of life in French-speaking countries is emphasized.
SPANISH I
5 Credits Full Year Honors Prerequisite: None
In this course students are expected to enter with an excellent grasp of the Spanish language. This is an accelerated program, which covers in-depth much more than the other first year programs. Normally, students finish first year text by the beginning of the 4th quarter, and go on to what are normally considered second year topics.
SPANISH I
5 Credits Full Year College I Prerequisite: None
College I Spanish I presents a graded series of lessons intended to meet the essential needs of the beginner in the first year of Spanish studies. During the year's training, considerable supplementary material is used, along with the textbook. Much emphasis is placed on communication in Spanish from the first day of class. The year's course is designed to encourage the student to express himself /herself orally.
SPANISH I
5 Credits Full Year College II Prerequisite: None
The same procedure and course sequence is followed as in College I Spanish with a little less emphasis on reading and writing Spanish.
SPANISH II
5 Credits Full Year Honors
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish I with a minimum grade of 80% or permission of the instructor.
This course is conducted in Spanish. Students continue their intellectual development in the language, both oral and aural, begun in Spanish I Honors. It prepares students for the rigorous requirements offered in the 11th and 12th AP sequence. This is a fast moving, in-depth study of the language and culture of the Hispanic world. Much reading and spoken analysis is involved. Incoming students must have completed summer readings and related assignments.
SPANISH II
5 Credits Full Year College I
Prerequisite: Spanish I with grade of 70%, or permission of the instructor.
This section is a continuation of College I Spanish I. Along with a review of the basic aspects of grammar, the cultural and historical highlights of the Hispanic world.are presented. The second semester is spent in reading, conversation, and general advancement in the language.
SPANISH II
5 Credits Full Year College II
Prerequisite: Spanish I and grade of 70%, or permission of the instructor.
This section is a continuation of College II Spanish I. Review of Spanish grammar is emphasized although there are readings in other texts, as well as the study of Hispanic culture.
SPANISH III
5 Credits Full Year Honors
Prerequisite: Spanish II with grade of 80%, or permission of the instructor.
This is a continuation of Spanish II Honors conducted in Spanish. Students are not accepted into class if summer assignments are not done. The course focuses on in-depth grammar study and writing, an exploration of art, literature, history and poetry. Some Hispanic authors are studied. Students continue work on AP material this year including grammar, listening tapes, rapid free response, directed questions, story telling and writing, in preparation for AP exam 4th year
SPANISH III
5 Credits Full Year College I
Prerequisite: Spanish II with a final grade of 70% or permission of the instructor.
Spanish is the main language spoken in the classroom. History, customs, and other aspects of Hispanic life are studied. Individual work is emphasized.
SPANISH IV HONORS/AP LANGUAGE, COMPOSITION, AND CONVERSATION
5 Credits Full Year Honors/AP
Prerequisite: Spanish III with a grade of 80%, or permission of the instructor. Students are not accepted into class if summer assignments are not done.
*Students are required to take the exam in May. Payment for the exam is due to the principal at the end of the first quarter.
This class is intended for students wishing to take AP exam. Oral skills, listening comprehension, composition and rigorous work in grammar will be emphasized. Course content includes history, culture, literature, film, current events in Spanish speaking countries and exploration of student initiated topics and presentations. Many Latin American and Spanish authors will be studied, discussed and analyzed. There will be extensive written and oral work. Native speakers are encouraged to sign up for the class to perfect literacy, wiring skills, and grammar.
SPANISH IV
5 Credits Full Year Honors
Prerequisite: Completion of Spanish III Honors with a grade of 80%, or permission of the instructor. Students are not accepted into class if summer assignments are not done.
This course is conducted in Spanish. There will be various units that will be explored, among them, Hispanic art and history, the short modern story in Spain and Latin America, Hispanic culture and civilization, and others to be decided in class. Emphasis is on critical analysis, creative writing, and oral presentations of various topics.
SPANISH IV
5 Credits Full Year College I
Prerequisite: Spanish III with a final grade of 70% or permission of the instructor.
Literature and written and oral reports are emphasized in this course as the students initiate the direction they wish to take. The course also explores Spanish art, culture, and history.
GERMAN I
5 Credits Full Year Honors Prerequisite: None
The text is the same as that used for German I, but the pace of this course is accelerated. A wide variety of material is used to provide extensive practice in the four language skills.

The beginning course in German is designed for students who desire an in-depth study of German. GERMAN II
5 Credits Full Year Honors
Prerequisite: German I Honors with 80% or better or permission of instructor.
This course is a continuation of German I Honors. It continues the accelerated and rigorous approach to the mastery of German.
GERMAN II
5 Credits Full Year College I
Prerequisite: German I with grade of 70% or permission of the instructor.
This section is a continuation of German I. The conversational skills are further improved with additional presentation of grammar and more emphasis on reading-writing skills.
GERMAN III
5 Credits Full Year Honors
Prerequisite: German II honors with 80% or better or permission of instructor.
The most advanced grammatical structures are studied and integrated into the students linguistic expression. A wide variety of German authors are studied.
GERMAN III
5 Credits Full Year College I
Prerequisite: German II with grade of 70% or permission of the instructor.
German is the main language used in the classroom. The four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are further developed. Aspects of German history and German civilization will be studied. Readings in German literature will be introduced. Provisions will be made for individual work.
GERMAN IV
5 Credits Full Year Honors
Prerequisite: German III Honors with a grade of 80% or permission of the instructor.
This course will include College I grammar review, reading of modern short stories and poetry and discussion. The discussion will center on the interpretation of literary texts, however, more general cultural, social and political topics will be included. Frequent short writing assignments and two more extensive ones will be required. The course is conducted in German.

PORTUGUESE I
5 Credits Full Year College I Prerequisite: None
This course is designed for students who desire an in-depth study of Portuguese. The four basic skills in learning a foreign language (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are developed over the year. Much emphasis is placed on using the target language.
PORTUGUESE II
5 Credits Full Year College I
Prerequisite: Portuguese I with a grade of 70% or permission of the instructor.
This course is a continuation of Portuguese I the conversational skills are further improved with additional presentation of grammar and more emphasis on reading and writing skills.
PORTUGUESE III

Prerequisite: Portuguese II with a grade of 70% or permission of the instructor.
Portuguese is the main language used in the classroom. The four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are further developed. Portuguese history, literature and culture in Brazil and around the Portuguese speaking world will be studied.

This course is conducted in Portuguese. The four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are further developed. In-depth grammar, history, literature, poetry, and culture from Brazil and around the Portuguese speaking world will be studies. Native speakers are encouraged to sign up for the class to perfect literacy skills, writing, and grammar.
