CONSUMER SCIENCE

Students who elect courses from the Consumer Science Department are:

FRESHMEN FOODS
Elective 2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: None
This is a semester course for Freshmen in which the basic fundamentals of cooking are to be covered. During the course individual food products as well as simple meals will be prepared.

CULINARY II

Elective 2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: None
This is a semester course which covers topics similar to Culinary Arts I, but uses more complicated recipes. Some of the preparations include main dishes, salads, and desserts.
Offered in alternative school years starting in an odd numbered year.

VEGETARIAN COOKING
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: None
This course will study different types of vegetarian diets, including Vegan, Lacto and Lacto-ovo Diets. Foods will be prepared for each type of diet and nutritional information will be discussed.

BAKING
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: None
This is a semester course in which different types of baked products are prepared. Some examples are quick breads yeast breads, pastries and casseroles. Offered on alternative school years starting in an even number.

FOREIGN COOKING
2.5 Credits Semester Unweighted Prerequisite: None
This is a semester course in which foods that are common in foreign countries are prepared by students. Some examples of countries studied are Portugal, France, Italy and Mexico. Offered on alternative school years starting in an even number.
