In order to protect classroom instruction, and minimize hallway distractions, MVRHS has a hallway and bathroom pass procedure. When a student is in possession of a pass, it demonstrates quickly, and without the need for a conversation, that a student has permission to be out of class during the instructional block.
All students must have a pass to be outside his/her assigned class.
- For bathroom usage, students should get a pass from the teacher. Teachers should be mindful when giving out passes to ensure they are monitoring who is in and out. It is expected that they will allow one person out at a time, within reasonable discretion. Teachers should also keep mental note of class avoidance behaviors (being out of class for a long time, frequently requesting a pass elsewhere) and address it accordingly themselves, through guidance or through the dean’s office.
- For travelling to another teacher or to an office, the sending teacher must write a student a pass. Teachers should ensure that a student is accountable for missed class time, is not abusing the pass policy, and is returning to class when appropriate. If possible or appropriate, a teacher should follow up with the other teacher or office to ensure the student was there.
- If a student is in an office at the beginning of a period, he/she needs a pass back to class. Either the student or the teacher should let Inez know . When possible, a teacher should update their attendance to reflect that a student is back in class.
- During flex time, a teacher is expected to take appropriate attendance in Enriching Students. They have the discretion to send a student to another teacher on a pass, but should communicate this to the teacher, but this should be used VERY sparingly so as not disrupt the other teachers space/flex time.
